PROXXON DIVIDING
APPARATUS UT 400
General:
GB
Dividing apparatus is used for manufacturing
divisions (pitch) on workpieces: Typical exam-
ples are gearing and pitch circles. These can
be regular or irregular: The main thing is that
the spacing is the same as that set on the
dividing apparatus or a multiple thereof.
To carry out the desired work, the tool fixed in
a lathe chuck or the face chuck is simply
further turned by the amount set after each
machining operation.
The PROXXON UT 400 is equipped with a
worm gear as standard and is used mostly for
manufacturing gearwheels, transmission parts,
ratchets, cams etc.
Almost all pitches below 100 can be made. The
clamp and 4 dividing plates are also supplied:
27/42, 33/40, 34/39 and 36/38 pitch circle
setting.
Although the device was developed mainly for
the PD 400 lathe system and the FF/PF 400
milling machine system from PROXXON, hori-
zontal and vertical fastening is possible on
practically any suitable slot table.
If the square nuts supplied do not fit (they are
adjusted to the PD/PF/FF 400 system with the
corresponding T-slot table), the user must, if
necessary, acquire other square parts with
suitable tap holes.
Scope of delivery (Fig. 1):
Contents:
Item 1 Dividing apparatus
Item 2 Fastener
Item 3 Dividing plates
Fastening and assembly
The UT 400 dividing apparatus can either be
directly fastened onto the cross slide on the PD
400 lathe or alternatively onto the milling table
with T slots.
This also enables problem-free working with
the attached milling cutter.
– 10 –
When fastening directly to the cross support of
the lathe, first remove the lengthwise support
with the steel holder. To do this, unscrew the
two Allen screws according to fig. 2 and re-
move the lengthwise support and the square
nut in the slot.
Once the lengthwise support of the PD 400
has been removed, the slots (1) by which the
dividing apparatus can be secured become
visible, see fig. 3.
Insert the square nuts supplied into the slots on
the supporting table, see fig. 4.
Horizontal fastening
See fig. 5 and 6: Horizontal fastening is effect-
ed by means of 3 drill holes in the body of the
unit. These are covered by 3 of the 4 drill holes
in the round flange when this has been brought
into the correct position by turning the crank.
Then secure the entire unit with the 3 x 6 Allen
screws (long version) supplied.
Fig. 7 shows the assembled dividing appa -
ratus:
Please note: The dividing apparatus can, of
course, be fastened in the same way on the
mechanical stage of the FF 400.
Vertical fastening
Vertical fastening is performed as shown in fig.
8 by means of screws with a hexagonal head
(short version).
To do this, insert square nuts into the T slots on
the supporting table. Then tighten them. Fig. 9
shows the dividing apparatus in its vertically
assembled state.
Finally, the suitable jigs and fixtures can be
screwed on. Please use only the PROXXON
lathe chuck or the PROXXON face chuck:
These are designed for use in combination with
the UT 400.
Working with the dividing apparatus:
The flange is fitted with a centering collar with
a 70mm fit.
This is suitable for fastening the various
PROXXON 3- or 4-jaw chuck and the face
chuck (all from the PD 400 lathe).
