Preparing to measure blood pressure
In the case of women who have had a mastectomy, do not place the cuff
on the arm on the side on which the operation took place.
Other medical devices being used on the same arm at the same time may
malfunction during measurement.
The cuffmust not be too tight; you should still be able to fit a couple of
fingers between the arm and the cuff.
The metal bracket must never lie on top of the artery as this could lead
to incorrect results.
➡ Pass the cuff through the metal bracket, pull on the end to tighten, and
wrap it around the upper arm. Press the Velcro gently to secure.
➡ Ask the patient to place his/her arms in the cuffs on the table, slightly
bent and in a relaxed position, with the cuffs at heart height.
Make sure that the air tubes are not kinked during measurement. The re-
sulting blood congestion could cause injury.
The process of taking blood pressure must not stop the circulation for an
unnecessarily long time (more than 2 minutes). If the system malfunctions, re-
move the cuffs from the arms.
