Installation with regard to the wind zone/wind speed

When installing air-termination systems, the wind zones must be observed (see Fig. 16). These wind
zones differ from region to region. When installing air-termination systems outside of Germany, the
country-specific requirements concerning wind zones/wind speeds must be considered.

To calculate the actual wind load to be expected, the zone-dependent wind load, building height and
local conditions (detached building in open terrain or building surrounded by other buildings) must also
be considered.
When designing self-supporting air-termination rods, the following requirements must be fulfilled with
regard to the wind load:
Tilt resistance of the air-termination rod

Break resistance of the air-termination rod

The required separation distance from the object to be protected must be maintained even under

wind load (prevention of intolerable bending)
Therefore, the individual components such as air-termination rod, supporting tube, tripod, etc. must be
chosen for the wind load to be expected depending on the construction of the building.
If the air-termination tip/air-termination rod is directly attached to the supporting tube,
HVI long Conductors can withstand different wind loads. The relevant fixing dimensions of the sup-

porting tube (see Fig. 17) must be observed.
