General information regarding the CE marking
HAMEG measuring instruments comply with the EMC directive. Our conformity
tests are based upon the relevant standards. In case there is a choice of test
limits HAMEG will test to the most stringent ones. Radiated emission tests are
based upon the limits (class 1B) for Small Business. Immunity tests are based
upon the limits applicable for industrial sites.
All input and output cables infl uence emissions as well as immunity and may
cause a violation of standards' limits if improperly installed. The following hints
will help to preclude any problems:
1. Interface connections
All connections between measuring instruments and external printers, computers
etc. must be shielded. Unless the operating instructions do not specify a shorther
length a maximum of 3 m must not be exceeded for input/output or signal/control
cables. Also, such cables must not be run external to the building. In case several
cables can be connected to an interface terminal only one may be connected at
any time. Interface cables should be of a double-shielded type. Suitable cables
for the IEEE bus are the types HZ72S and HZ72L.
2. Signal connnections
All connections between the measuring instrument and the unit under test should
be kept as short as possible. Unless the operating instructions do not specify
a shorter length 3 m must not be exceeded. Also, such cables must not be run
external to the building. All signal connections must use shielded coax such as
RG58/U. Proper ground connection is mandatory. Signal generator output cables
should be of the double-shielded type, e.g. RG223/U, RG214/U.

3. Immunity
Strong magnetic or electric fi elds may introduce undesired signals into the
measuring instrument even if the measuring setup was carefully chosen.
HAMEG instruments will not be destroyed in such case. In rare cases such
infl uences may cause minor measurement errors, however, with results outside
of specifi cations.
