LIGHTING THE BURNERS
You must have followed all the checks and
procedures in the section headed "Before
the first use" before igniting the Plancha.
• The Plancha cover must always be
open when igniting the burners.
• Do not lean directly over the Plancha
when lighting the burners.
• The control knobs on the Plancha
must be in the OFF position. Open
the tap on the gas cylinder slowly.
Before turning the control knob on
one burner, wait for about 10 se-
conds to allow the gas to stabilise.
• Never try to light all the burners at
once.
LIGHTING BURNERS USING THE
IGNITER
• Open the Plancha cover.
• Open the tap on the gas cylinder.
• Press one of the two knobs in and
turn it to HIGH. You will hear the
piezo ignition light once when it
clicks. The spark will light the burner.
• If the burner does not ignite after
three attempts, turn off the gas and
wait for five minutes before trying
again. This will allow accumulated
gas to disperse. Try again, repeating
the previous steps.
• If the burner still fails to ignite, read
the "Troubleshooting" section to de-
termine the cause and the solution,
or use a match as explained below.
LIGHTING BURNERS USING A MATCH
Remove the griddle from the appliance.
Now the burners are visible and easy to
reach. You can now light the burners using
a long match if the piezo ignition does not
work.
• Open the Plancha cover.
• Open the tap on the gas cylinder.
• Hold the lighted match through the
opening about 13 mm from the bur-
ner.
• Press in the desired knob and turn
to 'High'. The fire should light within
five seconds. If not, turn the knob off
and wait for five minutes to allow the
gas to disperse.
• Repeat steps 1 to 5. If the burner still
fails to ignite after three attempts,
read the "Troubleshooting" section.

LIGHTING THE OTHER BURNERS
• The second burner is lit in the same
way as the first.
VISUAL CHECK OF THE FLAMES
If the flames of the burners jump out of the
burner box when the barbecue is in use,
immediately turn off the control knobs. Wait
5 minutes to allow the gas to escape before
relighting the barbecue. Read the chapter
'Troubleshooting Guide' if the problem
persists.
Each time you light the barbecue you
should check the flames. (Fig. I) A proper
flame is almost comletely blue, with some
yellow at the top. If the flame is abnormally
small and for the most part yellow, switch
off the barbecue and check the venturi
tubes for obstructions, or read the chapter
'Troubleshooting Guide'.
I
SWITCHING OFF THE BARBECUE
• Close the gas cylinder valve
• Turn all control knobs of the burners
to 'OFF'.
If you follow the above order, there will be
no more pressurized gas in the system.
USEFUL TIPS FOR USE OF THE
BARBECUE
FIRST USE
Before using your Plancha for the first time,
allow the unit to 'run in' by operating it for a
short period of time without food. To 'run in'
your Plancha, ignite the appliance.
Keep the temperature on 'HIGH' for
15 minutes. The Plancha is now ready for
use.
PREHEATING THE PLANCHA
The Plancha must be pre-heated on 'HIGH'
for at least ten minutes before you put food
on it.
If you want to cook at a lower temperature
than 'HIGH', turn the control knob to the
right position before you put the food on the
Plancha.
COOKING TIME
The actual cooking time will depend on a
number of factors, including your taste, the
ambient temperature and the wind. Experi-
ence will enable you to estimate this time.
HOW TO PREVENT FOODFROM
STICKING
• Rub the food lightly with oil before
placing it on the griddle.
• Or use the Barbecook spray to oil
the griddle.
• Do not turn the food too soon after
putting it on the griddle.
WARNING:
• Do not leave your Plancha unat-
tended while in operation, especially
not if there are children or pets in the
vicinity. Keep an eye on the appli-
ance to ensure that everything is
working properly.
• Accessible parts can become very
hot. Use appropriate protection when
you touch these parts. Keep young
children away from the appliance.
• Do not move the appliance while it is
alight.
TIPS FOR CLEANING AND
MAINTENANCE
To prolong the life of your appliance, it
should be cleaned carefully after every use.
GRIDDLE
To make it as easy as possible to clean
your griddle, it is best to clean it after each
use while still hot. Barbecook has develo-
ped a 'Plancha plug' which makes mainte-
nance very straightforward. First place the
'Plancha plug' in the waste outlet, and then
fill the grease recovery trap with water.
Pour the water over the still-hot griddle and
allow the residues to loosen. The plug
will ensure that the water remains on the
griddle.
Then use a non-abrasive brush or the
Barbecook Bamboo brush to scour the
griddle clean. To remove the water, replace
the grease recovery trap and remove the
'Plancha plug' from the opening. You can
repeat this step a number of times until the
griddle is clean.
