Service and operating positions for the 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L,
8247-22L, 8247-42L, 8284-21A, 8284-22A, 8286-41A, or 8286-42A system
Use these procedures to place 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, 8247-42L, 8284-21A, 8284-22A,
8286-41A, or 8286-42A server into the service or operating position.
Placing the rack-mounted system into the service position
Use this procedure to place the rack-mounted system into the service position.
Notes:
v When placing the system into the service position, it is essential that all stability plates are firmly in
position to prevent the rack from toppling. Ensure that only one system unit is in the service position
at a time.
v Ensure that the cables at the rear of the system unit do not catch or bind as you pull the system unit
forward in the rack.
v When the rails are fully extended, the rail safety latches lock into place. This action prevents the
system from being pulled out too far.
To place a rack-mounted system into the service position, complete the following steps:
1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap attached. If not, attach it now.
2. If you have not already done so, remove the front cover of the system. For instructions, see
"Removing the front cover" on page 36.
3. Remove the front screws (A) that secure the system unit to the rack.
