5. Testing

The function of a phase comparison is to verify in-phase conditions of three-phase systems. It is typical-
ly carried out at the disconnection point of:
Two networks
Â
Two systems
Â
Two system parts
Â
Two conductors
Â
etc. which are to be connected. In the following, this will be referred to as "system" (see Fig. 4).

Test procedures

The test procedures that will be described in the following are required to ensure clear phase compa-
rison and must be completely carried out unless the test should be interrupted. The specified sequence
must be observed.
The contact point for the test electrode at the part of the installation must be metallically bare. It must
be ensured that the test electrode only contacts the
Energised part of the installation,
Â
Earthed part of the installation and
Â
Unearthed part of the installation
Â
to be tested.
The "out-of-phase" indication of the phase comparator appears if the phase angle between the sys-
tems (system parts) to be tested is between 60° and 300°, this corresponds to class B.
The phase comparator may be energised for max. 5 minutes and, in wet weather conditions, for max.
1 minute.
