Handling of sample synchronization in a SAM600 system
SmpSync field denotes the synchronization status of the sampled value stream. According
The
to IEC 61850 the possible values of
0 – sampled value stream is not synchronized by an external clock signal
1 – sampled value streams is synchronized by a clock signal from an unspecified local area
clock
2 – sampled value stream is synchronized by a global area clock signal (time traceable,
GPS)
The sample synchronization value of a sampled value stream that is provided by a SAM600
system depends on the configured time synchronization method and the current
synchronization status of the SAM600 system.

Synchronization by 1PPS
SmpSync value depends on the quality of the current time master. If it has a GPS reception then
1) The
SmpSync will be (2). Otherwise, it will be (1).
2) The
SmpSync value depends on the location where the time synchronization fault occurred. A time
synchronization error within a SAM600 system will result in SmpSync as (0), as shown in
time synchronization error outside of the SAM600 will not be detected. Therefore, the SmpSync value will be
(1).
3) If the
value will be (1), else it will be (0) and the PPS outputs will be disabled from TS modules in the SAM600
system.
If SAM600 System is synchronized:
with PTP Master clock, then the pulse width of the 1PPS outputs is about 168 milliseconds.
with PTP GrandMaster with GPS/PPS, then the pulse width of the 1PPS outputs is about
168 milliseconds.
with no synchronization, then the pulse width of the 1PPS outputs is about 168
microseconds.
If the SmpSync of a SAM600-TS is (0), then its 1PPS outputs are disabled.

SAM600 module and system supervision

Each SAM600 module regularly checks various aspects of its health status. If an issue is
detected, a log entry is recorded (see Appendix A). Certain issues are also indicated by the HMI
(see Section 7.2.3).

SAM600 systems from the same 1PPS source.
