4-1. WINGS.
4-2. The supporting structure for each tail boom is
an integral part of each wing. A wing is illustrated
in figure 4-1.
4-3. REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.
a. Drain all fuel from aircraft.
b. Remove empennage from tail booms as a unit.
See paragraph 4-8.
c. Remove tail boom from wing being removed.
See paragraph 4-6.
d. Disconnect and remove parts of fuel selector
valve control as necessary to remove wing. Refer
to Section 11 for details of selector valve control.
e. Disconnect aileron carry-thru cable at turn-
buckle above headliner and pull cable into wing root
area.
f.
Disconnect applicable flap cables from actuator
above headliner rear access opening. Remove cable
guards and pulleys as necessary to pull cables into
wing root area.
g. Disconnect flexible hoses, plumbing, electrical
wiring, and any other items that would interfere with
wing removal, at or near the wing root area.
h. Support opposite wing as a safety precaution.
Support wing being removed and detach strut from
wing. If cables routing up strut were not pulled
from wing during boom removal, do so before de-
taching strut.

Detach wing from fuselage and place on padded
wing stand.
j.
Reverse this procedure to install the wing. Rig

fuel selector valve control and flight control systems.
Refuel aircraft and check for leaks. Check operation
of all systems and equipment that may have been af-
fected by wing removal.
4-4. WING STRUTS are illustrated in figure 4-2,
which may be used as a guide for removal and re-
placement. Also shown in figure 4-2, are guides
for correct routing of cables through the fairleads
attached to the struts. Be sure wing is supported
before removing strut. Rig control systems as nec-
essary after installation.
Before installing strut,
slide upper and lower fairings on strut.
Also see
the note in figure 4-2.
4-5. BOOMS.
4-6. REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.
a. Remove empennage from booms as a unit. See
paragraph 4-8.
b. If right boom is being removed, disconnect flap/
elevator trim interconnect at trim cable and at clamps
inside boom.
c. If left boom is being removed, disconnect static
line at tee near static sources.
d. Check for and disconnect any other items that
would interfere with boom removal.
e. Support boom and remove attaching screws.
Pull boom aft and work cables and electrical wiring
out of boom.
f.
Reverse this procedure to install boom, rigging
control systems as necessary.
