STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL

1. Using a punch, drive out the roll pin (C, Figure 4)
securing the steering wheel (A) to the steering shaft.
2. Pull the wheel off the shaft.
Install the steering wheel in reverse order. Be sure to
lubricate the steering shaft with anti-seize compound
before assembly.

STEERING SHAFT REMOVAL

1. Remove the mower deck.
2. Remove the steering wheel. See Steering Wheel
Removal.
3. Remove the tube (D, Figure 4).
4. Remove the roll pin (Ref. 3, Figure 1) and washers
(Ref. 47) retaining the steering shaft.
5. Using an overhead chain hoist, and at least one
assistant, lift up the front of the rider and slide the
steering shaft out the bottom of the unit.
6. Install the shaft in reverse order.

DASH SHROUD REMOVAL

1. Remove the steering wheel. See Steering Wheel
Removal.
2. Remove the tube (D, Figure 4).
3. Remove the roll pin (Ref. 3, Figure 1) and washers
(Ref. 47) retaining the steering shaft.
4. Remove the parking brake knob. See Parking Brake
Knob Removal.
5. Remove the cutting height adjustment knob. See
Cutting Height Adjuster Knob Removal.
6. Remove the two screws (Ref. 37, Figure 1) securing
the upper plastic dash panel (Ref. 24/25).
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the ground speed
control lever knob.
7. Remove the plastic upper dash panel by pushing it
forward.
8. Remove the capscrews (Ref. 39, Figure 1) securing
the front dash shroud (Ref. 14). The capscrews are
located on the bottom of the frame.
9. Loosen the two forward bolts (Ref. 32, Figure 1)
securing the mower lift quadrant (Ref. 16).
10. Remove the rear bolt (Ref. 36, Figure 1), clamp
(Ref. 19), and spacer (Ref. 6) securing the mower lift
quadrant (Ref. 16).
NOTE: It is not necessary to completely remove the
mower lift quadrant (Ref. 16).
11. Remove the dash shroud (14, Figure 1).

GROUND SPEED CONTROL LEVER
REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the dash shroud. See Dash Shroud
Removal.
2. Release tension on the shift lever by disengaging the
torsion spring's (Ref. 13, Figure 1) hooked end from
the shift rod (Ref. 12).
3. Using a long-nose pliers, remove the cotter pin
(Ref. 28, Figure 1) from the end of the shift lever.
4. Slide the shift lever out of the shift lever (Ref. 12)
mounting bushings (Ref. 9), and inspect both for
damage.
Replace as necessary.
5. Apply a light application of grease to the end of the
shift lever (Ref. 12) before reinstalling it into the plas-
tic mounting bushings (Ref. 9).
6. Secure the shift lever in place with a new cotter pin
(Ref. 28), and re-engage the hooked end of torsion
spring (Ref. 13) to the shift lever.
7. Check the shift lever for smooth operation.
