Drive Belt Replacement - Gear Models

BELT REMOVAL
1. Remove the mower deck. See Mower Deck Repair
section for instructions.
2. Block the front tires and elevate the rear of the unit.
See Elevating the Rear End for Safe Service.
3. Remove the left rear torque strap (A, Figure 4) and
brake return spring (B).
4. Remove the transmission belt guide (C, Figure 4).
5. Loosen the remaining torque strap (D, Figure 4) and
transmission mounting bolts (E).
6. Loosen the belt guides around the engine pulley.
7. Loosen the idler pulley (F, Figure 4) and remove the
belt by sliding it between the guide and the pulley.
8. Separate the front and rear shift rods (A and B,
Figure 3).
9. Disconnect the PTO clutch electrical connector.
10. Remove the drive belt.
BELT INSTALLATION
11. Install the new drive belt over the engine pulley and
transmission pulley.
12. Reconnect the PTO clutch electrical connection.
13. Reconnect the front and rear shift rods (A and B,
Figure 3).
14. Route the drive belt between the idler pulley (F,
Figure 4) and belt guide. Position the pulley so that
the belt is 1/8" away from the belt guide and tighten
the idler pulley bolt.
15. Retighten the transmission mounting bolts (E, Figure
4) and torque strap (D).
16. Reinstall the left rear torque strap (A, Figure 4), brake
return spring (B), and transmission belt guide.
17. Check the engine belt guides.
18. Lower the rider.
19. Perform transmission Neutral Adjustment. See
Adjustment section.
20. Reattach the mower deck.
