Section 3 - MAINTENANCE
WARNING
DO NOT attempt any adjustments, maintenance,
service or repairs with the engine running. Stop
engine. Stop blade. Engage parking brake. Remove
key. Remove spark plug wire from spark plug and
secure away from plug. Engine and components are
HOT. Avoid serious burns, allow all parts to cool
before working on machine. Fuel Filler Cap and Vent
must be closed securely to prevent fuel spillage.

3.4 SERVICE - ANNUALLY

Perform all maintenance as described in the
maintenance schedule.

3.4.1. Engine

Service engine according to engine owner's manual.

3.4.2. Air Filter

Refer to engine owner's manual for service
instructions.

3.4.3. Oil Filter

Refer to engine owner's manual for service
instructions.

3.4.4. Engine Oil

Refer to engine owner's manual for service
instructions.

3.4.5. Transaxle

IMPORTANT: DO NOT try to open reservoir cap at
any time. The transaxle is maintenance free. The
transaxle does not require any fluid or any
service. If there is any problem: leakage,
malfunction or etc. return the SCRAMBLER
immediately to the nearest authorized Snapper
dealer for service.

3.4.6. Fuel Filter

Service fuel filter as instructed below. Close fuel
valve in fuel line. Run engine until engine runs out
of fuel. Turn key to "OFF" position. Engine MUST
be stopped and MUST be cold before removing
filter. Perform filter change only when fuel line is
empty.
1. Remove hose clamps from fuel filter.
2. Remove fuel lines from filter. Discard filter.
3. Install new fuel filter. Reinstall hose clamps. See
Figure 3.10.

3.5 STORAGE (OUT OF SEASON)
Perform
the
following
SCRAMBLER will operate properly when taken out of
storage.
1. Thoroughly clean the SCRAMBLER by removing
all grass clippings and debris.
2. Perform
maintenance
described in the previous sections.
3. Drain fuel from fuel tank into an approved
container outdoors away from all sources of
ignition.
4. Start engine and allow it to run until engine runs
out of fuel. This allows the carburetor and fuel
system to remain clean during storage.
5. Remove battery. Refer to Section "BATTERY
REMOVAL AND STORAGE".
6. Close vent on fuel filler cap and fuel valve in fuel
line. Remove key.
