Third-party application control

About permissions for third-party applications

You can set whether third-party apllications on your BlackBerry® device can use data or connections
from other applications. For example, a third-party application might use data from organizer
applications or connections from applications such as the phone.
If applications or connections within a group have different permission values, the permission field for
the group is Custom.
If you have third-party applications on your device, the device firewall is designed to prevent these
applications from transmitting data without your knowledge. When a third-party application attempts to
transmit data to or from your device, a dialog box prompts you to accept or deny the connection request.
If you have turned off the prompt after accepting or denying an application, and want to be prompted
again, you can reset the firewall to show the connection prompts.

Reset connection permissions for third-party applications

1. In the device options, click Security Options.
2. Click Firewall.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Reset Settings.
About direct Internet connections for third-party
applications
Some third-party applications that you install on your BlackBerry® device might require a direct TCP or
HTTP connection to the Internet. For example, a stock application might need to connect to the Internet
to retrieve the latest prices. You might have to set the access point name (APN) used for this connection.
Set up a direct Internet connection for third-party
applications
Verify that you know the access point name (APN), and the user name and password for the APN.
Contact your wireless service provider for more information.
1. In the device options, click Advanced Options.
2. Click TCP.
3. In the APN field, type the access point name.
4. Type the user name and password to connect to the access point.
5. Press the Menu key.
6. Click Save.
