When washing the outboard motor, be care-
ful not to spray the water inside of the top
cowl, especially electrical components.

Note
It is recommended to check chemical
properties of water on which your out-
board motor is regularly used.
If outboard motor is used in salt water,
brackish water or water with a high acidic
level, use fresh water to remove salt,
chemicals or mud. And flush cooling
water passage after every cruising or
before storing outboard motor for long
time. Before flushing, remove the propel-
ler and the forward thrust holder.

To prevent the engine from starting when
you are near the propeller, remove the stop
switch lock.

1. Tilt down the outboard motor.
2. Remove the water plug from the gear
case, and scre w in the flushing
attachment.
3. Attach the flushing attachment and
connect a water hose. Turn on the
water and adjust the flow. Continue
flushing the outboard motor for 3 to 5
minutes.
4. After the flushing, be sure to reattach
the water plug.

peller, or accidentally turning propeller
could cause personal injury.

Never start or operate the engine indoors or
in any space which is not well ventilated.
Exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide, a
colorless and odorless gas which can be fatal
if inhaled for any length of time.

CAUTION
When the engine is started in the test tank,
to avoid over heating and water pump dam-
age, be sure the water level is at least 10 cm
(4 in.) above the anti ventilation plate.
