2.1 Preparation of the measuring system for PO4-P measurement, calibration
standards
Chemicals required:
• Stock solution: Traceable ion standard PO
(e.g. WTW article no. 250478)
• Fuming hydrochloric acid (HCl) 37 % p.A. (≈ 12 M)
• Demineralized water (H
Aids and appliances:
• Volumetric flask 1000 ml
• Suitable pipettes
• Measuring system for testing for PO4-P (e.g. ion chromatograph Metrohm IC Compact 761)

Production of PO -P calibration standard:

The volumetric flask to be selected as per Table 2.1-1 must be filled to 80 % with
demineralized water. Wait for the temperature adaptation of the water. Add the
corresponding volume of stock solution (see Table 2.1-1) using a pipette. Then pipette the
amount of fuming hydrochloric acid specified in Table 2.1-1. Fill to the mark (demineralized
water) using the spray bottle. Mix the solution thoroughly.

Shelf life of calibration standard
The volumetric flask must be provided with the measuring ion and its concentration as well
as with the preparation date of the standard and hazardous substance marking and may be
used for one month (storage at room temperature) for calibrating the measuring system.
