    Compared with traditional sample preparations, the amount of mainte- nance of the PurCon is negligibly small. Due to the low dwell time of the sample in the PurCon, the preparation is carried out without any effect on existing component substances.

  • Page 6: How It Functions

    The feed is connected by a hose to the feed nozzle (PurCon housing base). The feed can be transported using an external pump or by using gravity to run it into the PurCon from a vessel placed higher than the PurCon.
  • Page 7 Permeate The permeate pump transports the permeate to the analyzers via a hose that is also supplied with the PurCon. It is connected to the per- meate nozzle. The quantity to be transported can be varied by a 4-step selection switch and, thus, optimally adapted to requirements.

    In this case, wait for the instrument to adjust to room temperature before recommissioning. Caution Opening the instrument or adjustment, maintenance and repair work must only be performed by personnel authorized by WTW. EN 61010-1 The instrument complies with the requirements of EN 61010-1, protec- tion class I.

    PurCon (see chapter, T ECHNICAL Caution Ensure that the PurCon is installed in the immediate vicinity of the ana- lyzers to avoid dead times as the result of lengthy permeate feed routes. Caution The mounting stand must be fixed to the floor.

    PurCon Commissioning Connecting the feed intake Connect the feed transport to the feed nozzle of the PurCon using a 3/4“ hose (ID 19 mm). Caution When setting up the quantity to be transported by the feed transport, follow the chapter T of this operating manual.

    PurCon Installing the PurCon air outlet (option) We recommend to install the PurCon air outlet if the drain pipe is not entirely pressure-free. By using the air outlet, no overpressure can develop in the system which prevents the retentate from running off.

    Use the power cable to connect the PurCon to an easily accessible mains socket. Warning The data on the nameplate (specified line voltage) of the PurCon must match that of the mains socket. See the chapter, T , for the connecting data.

    PurCon Commissioning Inserting the pump hoses Proceed as follows: Take the pump cassette out of the holder by pressing the clamp strap. Fix the pump hoses supplied between the first and second stopper in the pump cassette. Replace the pump cassette in the holder and snap in the clamp strap.

    Commissioning PurCon 3.10 Starting sample preparation The PurCon is now ready for operation. Before switching on the mains power, check the following points again: Are all the hose clamps used firmly tightened? Are the seals of the retentate nozzle seated correctly and tight?

    Maintenance PurCon Displacing the pump tubings The displacement of the pump tubings is necessary to prevent the mechanical wear of the pump tubings becoming too great. If this activity is carried out regularly, the lifetime of the pump tubings may exceed 6 months. The displacement can be carried out up to 5 times before the pump tubings become unusable.

    PurCon Maintenance Replacing the pump tubings To replace the pump tubings, carry out the following steps: Switch off the permeate pump (bring the Permeate selector switch into position 0). Loosen the pump cassettes on the gripping lever. Take the pump cassettes out of the holder by pressing the clamp strap.

    If the analyzers do not obtain sufficient permeate, they generate a cor- responding error message. In this case, the inside of the PurCon has to be cleaned. It is cleaned chemically by the effect of 1 % sodium hypochlorite solution. The cleaning solution can be produced from var- ious detergent concentrates by dilution.
  • Page 27 PurCon Maintenance On the following pages, cleaning the PurCon with hygienic cleaner and with detergent concentrate are described in detail. Method 1: To clean the PurCon, carry out the following steps: Cleaning using hygienic cleaner Disable the feed transport. (e. g. Dan Klorix) Switch off the permeate pump (selector switch to position 0).
  • Page 28 Maintenance PurCon Open the lid of the filler nozzle of the cleaning solution or unscrew the PurCon air outlet (option) on the top of the instru- ment. Cleaning the PurCon air outlet: – Unscrew the four lateral knurled-head screws and remove both caps and the inner insert.
  • Page 29 Subsequently, pour in 1.5 l hygienic cleaner and top up with water completely. Remove the funnel and screw the cap or the PurCon air outlet to the cleaning solution filler nozzle again. Allow the cleaning solution to act for approx. 30 min.

    In the case of drinking water or sensitive surface water, remove the out- let tube from the retentate nozzle. Remove the funnel and screw the cap or the PurCon air outlet to the cleaning solution filler nozzle again. Allow the cleaning solution to act for approx. 30 min.

    Switch off the permeate pump on the Permeate selector switch. Switch the PurCon off on the power switch. Disconnect the PurCon from the mains by pulling out the mains plug. Using a suitable screw driver, open the fuse holder on the right side of the instrument.
