Protection Relay
Technical Reference Manual, Standard Configurations

Introduction

This document provides descriptions of the standard configurations for
the REX 521. Section 3 describes the features of the different standard
configurations one by one while sections 4 to 6 describe the signal routings and
functionality. Section 8, 9 and 10 present different application examples.
The standard configurations available are presented in the following table. Note that
in the function block descriptions in the CD-ROM Technical Descriptions of
Functions (1MRS 750889-MCD) the FB names are used instead of the IEC names.
Hardware (HW) versions for the REX 521 are basic, medium, high and sensor. The
sensor variant of the standard configuration is indicated as the letter 'S' in the
"Config. name" parameter, e.g. H02S.
Differences between the REX 521 and the RED 500 platform in
the function block descriptions
The REX 521 and the RED 500 platform differ in some respects concerning the
function block descriptions in the CD-ROM Technical Descriptions of Functions
(1MRS 750889-MUM). Firstly, there are some terms that refer to other products
than the REX 521. Secondly, there are few characteristics that appear only in the
REX 521:
• Event mask 1 is only for SPA communication.
• The direct control of the auto-reclose function has been disabled.
• Limited number of inputs and outputs are used in standard configurations of the
REX 521.
