Cased Mica Capacitors
Encryption Modules
Midian Encryption Programming and Service Manual
June 2006 © Tait Electronics Limited
Cased mica capacitors can be removed by heating the top with a heavy-duty
soldering iron and gently lifting the capacitor off the PCB with a
solder-resistant spike or equivalent. Make sure that the solder at the tab
solder joint is melted or removed before attempting to lift the capacitor.
Important
The encryption module can control the radio PTT, and
while programming, may cause the radio to transmit.
Always provide protection for test equipment (such as RF
signal generators) so they cannot be damaged by transmitter
power.
Important
Each encryption module is provided with a sheet for
recording programmable settings. As Midan TVS-2
encryption codes, and all VPU12 module settings cannot
be read back, it is strongly recommended that all settings be
recorded for each fitted module and kept in a secure place.
