3.1 Overview
This sect ion provides inform at ion t o help you configure t he device effect ively. Som e of it is helpful
when you are j ust get t ing st art ed. Som e of it is provided for your reference when you configure
various feat ures in t he device.
3.2 Object-based Configuration
The device st ores inform at ion or set t ings as obj ect s. You use t hese obj ect s t o configure m any of t he
device's feat ures and set t ings. Once you configure an obj ect , you can reuse it in configuring ot her
feat ures.
When you change an obj ect 's set t ings, t he device aut om at ically updat es all t he set t ings or rules
t hat use t he obj ect . For exam ple, if you creat e a local cert ificat e obj ect , you can have HTTPS, FTP ,
SSH, and ot her set t ings use it . I f you m odify t he local cert ificat e obj ect , all t he HTTPS, FTP , SSH,
and ot her set t ings t hat are linked t o t hat obj ect aut om at ically apply t he updat ed set t ings.
You can use t he Con figu r a t ion > Obj e ct s screens t o creat e obj ect s before you configure feat ures
t hat use t hem . I f you are in a screen t hat uses obj ect s, you can also usually select Cr e a t e ne w
Obj e ct t o be able t o configure a new obj ect .
Use t he Obj e ct Re fe r e n ce screen t o see what obj ect s are configured and which configurat ion
set t ings reference specific obj ect s.
3.3 Feature Configuration Overview
