Once your device is configured and funct ioning properly, it is highly recom m ended t hat you back up
your configurat ion file before m aking furt her configurat ion changes. The backup configurat ion file
will be useful in case you need t o ret urn t o your previous set t ings.
Configuration File Flow at Restart
• I f t here is not a st a r t up- config.conf when you rest art t he device ( whet her t hrough a
m anagem ent int erface or by physically t urning t he power off and back on) , t he device uses t he
syst e m - de fa ult .con f configurat ion file wit h t he device's default set t ings.
• I f t here is a st a r t u p- con fig.con f, t he device checks it for errors and applies it . I f t here are no
errors, t he device uses it and copies it t o t he la st good.con f configurat ion file as a back up file. I f
t here is an error, t he device generat es a log and copies t he st a r t up- config.conf configurat ion
file t o t he st a r t u p- con fig- ba d.con f configurat ion file and t ries t he exist ing la st good.con f
configurat ion file. I f t here isn't a la st good.conf configurat ion file or it also has an error, t he
device applies t he syst e m - de fa ult .con f configurat ion file.
• You can change t he way t he st a r t up- config.conf file is applied. I nclude t he setenv-startup
stop-on-error off com m and. The device ignores any errors in t he st a r t u p- con fig.con f file
and applies all of t he valid com m ands. The device st ill generat es a log for any errors.
