Upgrading

Canon U.S.A. will provide dealers with the Service Support Tool (Version
1.25 or later) via Canon e-Support Center for updating the following
system components:
• System Software stored on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
• Language
• HD Format
• Remote User Interface (RUI) stored on the HDD
• BootROM stored on a Flash Double Inline Memory Module
When the hard disk drive is replaced, the Service Support Tool is used to
format the new HDD and load software. Canon U.S.A. will make the data
for these updates available to the dealers via CD-ROM.
Note:
A Personal Computer is required when installing upgraded firmware.
Use a Network or Parallel Bicentronics IEEE-1284 I/F cable
interface between the personal computer and the imageRUNNER 8500
to enable high-speed transmission of the data.

Computer Requirements For Upgrading

The following are the recommended Desktop PC or laptop specifications
to use for the download:
1) CPU: Pentium™ 133MHz or higher
2) Memory: 16MB or more (32MB or more is preferable)
3) Free HDD Capacity: 10MB or more of available hard disk space
4) Printer Port: ECP mode must be both supported and selected
5) Network: Must posses 10 BaseT or PCMCIA slot (Ethernet card)
6) USB Port: Must posses one or more USB ports (future consideration)
7) Windows™ 95/98/NT 4.0/2000 (Windows Me is not supported)
Note:

The following Bicentronics I/F cable is required: One end of the cable should have a TYPE A connector prescribed by IEEE1284
(25 pin, for PC connection). The other end should have a TYPE B connector (38 pin, for copier connection). Cables conforming
to the IEEE1284 are marked "IEEE Std. 1284 compliant."
