Deleting or changing an existing system setup
password
Ensure that the Password Status is Unlocked (in the System Setup) before attempting to delete or change the existing System and/or
Setup password. You cannot delete or change an existing System or Setup password, if the Password Status is Locked.
To enter the System Setup, press F2 immediately after a power-on or reboot.

In the System BIOS or System Setup screen, select System Security and press Enter.
The System Security screen is displayed.

In the System Security screen, verify that Password Status is Unlocked.

Select System Password, alter or delete the existing system password and press Enter or Tab.

Select Setup Password, alter or delete the existing setup password and press Enter or Tab.
NOTE:
If you change the System and/or Setup password, re-enter the new password when promoted. If you delete the
System and/or Setup password, confirm the deletion when promoted.

Press Esc and a message prompts you to save the changes.

Press Y to save the changes and exit from System Setup.
The computer reboot.

Clearing CMOS settings

Remove the
base
cover.

Remove the
battery (half-length)

Remove the
coin-cell
4
Wait for one minute.

Replace the
coin-cell
battery.

Replace the
battery (half-length)

Replace the
base
cover.

Real Time Clock (RTC) battery reset

Press and hold the power button for 25 seconds to force Real Time Clock (RTC) battery reset.

Flashing BIOS (USB key)

Follow the procedure from step 1 to step 7 in

Create a bootable USB drive. For more information see the knowledge base article

Copy the BIOS setup program file to the bootable USB drive.

Connect the bootable USB drive to the computer that needs the BIOS update.

Restart the computer and press F12 when the Dell logo is displayed on the screen.

Boot to the USB drive from the One Time Boot Menu.

Type the BIOS setup program filename and press Enter.

The BIOS Update Utility appears. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the BIOS update.
