5.12. Low Z Voltage measurement (P3445 only)
WARNING: Observe all safety precautions when working under
voltage. Do not connect to circuits exceeding 600 V AC / DC when
the meter is set to Low Z.
Low Z is used to test for "ghost" or "phantom" voltage. These
voltages can be present when non-powered conductors are near live
conductors. The capacitive coupling between the wires gives the
impression that non-powered wires are connected to a true voltage
source. The low-Z setting places a load on the circuit, greatly
reducing the voltage reading on the connection.
1.
Set the rotary function switch to the low-Z position.
2.
Briefly press the MODE button to select AC or DC voltage. The
AC "-" or DC "=" symbol appears on the LCD display.
3.
Insert the black test lead into the COM input jack and the red
lead into the V input jack. If the DC voltage is measured, route
the red wire to the positive side of the circuit and the black wire
to the negative side of the circuit.
4.
Place the test leads to the circuit under test.
5.
Read the voltage on the LCD display.
