Security
Checklist for merchants at the POS
Always compare the signature on the receipt with the one on the card.
Check the embossing on the card to verify its period of validity. If only one date is given,
the card is valid up to that date.
Use the UV security features on credit cards – if these features are not visible under UV
light, the credit card is most probably forged.
Always let the customer check the receipt or check it again yourself to spot keypad input
errors before completing the card payment.
Make sure that your customers can enter their PINs undisturbed and in complete privacy.
Avoid storing card receipts or details as much as possible. Dispose of old receipts in such
a way that no third parties can acquire possession of the details.
Keep your terminal in a safe place outside store opening hours.
Do not allow unauthorised persons to access the terminal.
Report any suspicion that the terminal has been tampered to the police and B+S
immediately.
In the case of all card transactions (purchase, reversal, refund), please be sure to retain
the receipt intended for the merchant (marked accordingly). This contains important data
which is not available anywhere else should you need to perform subsequent capturing
procedures or require information about the cardholder.
