10 KEYP AD,
( H) AND ( -) ,
As you have most likely figured out by this point the S tudio Logic Master C ontroller S L-760
( ON) AND ( OFF) :
uses the keyboard itself in E DIT mode as the 10 KE Y KE YP AD and data entry source. The keys
in the central octave, starting at the middle C , are assigned to specific functions for data entry
in E DIT mode and are clearly labeled as indicated in the diagram below. W hile you are in the
E DIT mode and using the numerical keypad the keyboard itself does not transmit MIDI notes
and performance information. Y ou must exit the E DIT mode to play notes from the keyboard.

Programming the S tudio Logic S L-760 Master C ontroller:
C reating musically useful P atches and how to do it.
Before we get into some programming examples and tips, the following information is about
the design architecture and how the S tudio Logic S L-760 Master C ontroller operates.
DEFAULT SETTING S
W hen your Master C ontroller is switched on for the first time it will transmit the following
default settings:
ZO NE #1 O N, Zones #2,#3 O FF . The three zones are set to transmit on MIDI channels
1 through 3 respectively, their S PLIT is set to the full extension of all 76 keys and all
switchable commands are in the O N position.
All ZO NE S set to S HAPE #1, VE LO C ITY = 4, TR ANS PO S E = 0.
VO LUME S E TTING S O F 127 if no VO LUME PE DAL is connected. If a VO LUME
PE DAL is connected whatever position the pedal is in will be transmitted.
S US T AIN O FF . (PE DAL is enabled but in the off position, C C 64 = O )
PIT C H BE ND value = 0, MO DULATIO N W HE E L value = 0
G ENERAL RESET
T o reset the unit to the above factory settings:
P ower up the keyboard while holding down all three UP-DO W N-E NTE R buttons, hold for a few
seconds then release all three buttons.

THE SPLIT
ANO THER SPLIT?
W hen the Master C ontroller is powered up it always transmits the contents of the program
memory.
After programming any parameters, the contents of the memory is transmitted when exiting
E DIT mode.
T o transmit the contents of the memory while in play mode press the E NTE R / E DIT button twice.
E xiting the E DIT mode automatically stores the newly changed parameters, if any, into the
memory.
W hen powering down the unit all information in memory is retained and then transmitted
again upon power up.
Y ou can not enter the E DIT MO DE if you are holding down keys or pressing the sustain pedal.
Y ou must release all pedals and keys before entering into the edit mode.
W hen re-entering the E DIT MO DE it will be on the parameter setting and ZO NE selection as it
was left when previously in the E DIT MO DE .
W hen E DIT MO DE is selected, the keyboard does not sound. T o test the programmed variations
and play the keyboard exit the E DIT MO DE .
These suggestions are designed as a starting point to help stimulate your own creative usage
of these features for your own musical applications and needs.
The ZO NE S are the heart of the S L-760 Master C ontroller. C reative use of the ZO NE 's parame-
ters and the ZO NE S themselves gives the player new found flexibility and control over their
sounds and modules. W e've already discussed how to operate the ZO NE S .
Now we apply them to musical applications. Y ou can use the three (3) ZO NE S in a number of
different ways: Here are some options and possible applications using the features of this key-
board.
S et all three ZO NE S to the same range of notes and assign each of them to three similar S tring
patches or three similar Piano patches.T ry two piano patches and a string patch. E xperiment
with disabling some of the features on some of the ZO NE S such as, AFTE R T O UC H or S US T AIN.
W hile playing one section of a song, leave some of the layers turned off and then switch them
on during the "C horus" by pressing their ZO NE S W IT C HE S to build dynamics in the song. O n
your module try setting and storing your PIANO patches to not respond to MIDI volume (C C #7)
then using a V olume P edal on your Master C ontroller you can bring up the S trings behind the
Piano when needed.
S et two ZO NE S in your left hand for an E lectric Piano/ P ad layer and set ZO NE (3) in the right
hand for a string or horn part. Use the TR ANS PO S E feature to bring these ZO NE S into a useful
range.
T ry a Bass patch using one ZO NE in the lowest two octaves of the keyboard, disable the
S US T AIN PE DAL and TR ANS PO S E up an octave or two to place it in the range of a bass guitar.
Now create a S PLIT in the middle range with ZO NE (2) set to a Breathy S ynth or C omping
patch, and the last ZO NE for the top octave or so on a Brass patch with the S US T AIN PE DAL
disabled. Y ou can play a bass line with your left hand, sustain chords you've played on the P ad
sound using the S ustain P edal and now play Horn stabs or lines above it with your right hand.
* Note O n S plits: Always remember to use the TR ANS PO S E feature to place your parts in pro-
per performance range no matter where on the 76 keys you may place a ZO NE S upper and lower
limits. Think of the whole keyboard as 76 keys or triggers available rather than the traditio-
nal note placement and tuning as on an Acoustic Piano.
