Creating realistic sound
(SURROUND MODE)
The two speakers produce an effect resembling
surround-sound.
• This function is activated when a loaded disc is
selected as the source.

Press SURROUND MODE
during playback.
Example:
• Each time you press the button, the display
toggles as follows.
ACTION
DRAMA
THEATER
OFF
• While SURROUND MODE is activated,
"SURROUND" appears on the display
window.
NOTE
• SURROUND MODE is effective for the speakers.
• When noise is produced or sound is distorted, set
SURROUND MODE to "OFF".
• If the SURROUND MODE is activated when the K2
function has already been activated, the K2 function
turns off automatically and the SURROUND MODE
turns on.

Selecting the headphone
surround mode
You can listen to surround sound via headphones
connected to the PHONES terminal.
• This function is activated when a loaded disc is
selected as the source.
■When headphones are connected to the
PHONES terminal

Press SURROUND MODE.
• Each time you press SURROUND MODE,
the setting toggles between "SURROUND
ON" and "SURROUND OFF" in the display
window.
• If the headphone surround mode function is
activated when the K2 function has already
been activated, the K2 function turns off
automatically and the headphone surround
mode function turns on.
NOTE
• The PHONES terminal is for connecting a pair of
headphones equipped with a stereo mini plug (not
supplied). When headphones are connected, no
sound is output from the speakers.
• "SURROUND ON" is displayed in the display
window for a short time when headphones are
disconnected from the PHONES terminal and then
connected to the PHONES terminal while the
headphone surround mode function is on.
Adjusting playback level
(DVD LEVEL)
The audio of a DVD VIDEO and DVD AUDIO may
be recorded at a lower level (volume) than for other
types of disc. If the difference is not to your liking,
adjust the DVD Level.

Press DVD LEVEL during
playback.
• Each time you press the button, the level
will be alternated among "NOR" (Normal),
"MID" (Middle) and "HIG" (High).
• Select the level while listening to the sound
played.
NOTE
• DVD Level is effective only for playback of a DVD.
• Even if the DVD Level is changed, the output level
from the digital audio output terminal will not be
changed.
• This operation can be carried out while the disc is
stopped or paused.
