Reassembly Procedure
i
The pump block (19) should still be secured upside-
down in a vise.
1. Soak the leather packings (21) in hydraulic oil for 15-20
minutes.
Lubricate all of the other parts of the upper packing set (20,
22) with hydraulic oil. Insert the female gland (20), the upper
packings (21) and the male gland (22) into the bottom of the
pump block (19).
Since the pump block (19) is upside-down, the upper
packing set will be installed accordingly, with the
peak of the "V" packings (21) pointing down.
Attention
After reinstallation, once the pump block is turned
right-side up again, the peak of the "V" packings will
point upwards. See fig. 23 for the final orientation of
all parts of the upper packing set (20-22).
21
2. Insert upper spring (23); small end of spring must go toward
the packing set.
3. Insert spring retainer (24).
4. Install new O-rings (25) on the cylinder (12).
i
Lubricate all O-rings before assembly (Piston Lube,
Part # 314-480).
5. Thread the cylinder (12) into the pump block (19). Tighten by
using a wrench on the flats of the cylinder.
6. Soak the leather packings (17) in hydraulic oil for 15-20
minutes.
Lubricate all other parts of the lower packing set (15-16, 18)
with hydraulic oil. Install them onto the piston seat (13) in the
following order: gland (18), lower packing set (17), gland (16)
and retainer (15).
The peak of the "V" packings (17) should be facing
downward upon reassembly.
Attention

7. Reinstall the ball (14) onto the piston seat (13).

8. Thread piston seat (13) back onto displacement rod (3).
Torque to 55-65 ft.-lbs. (74-88 N.m.)
i
use Loctite (Part # 426-051) on clean threads of the
piston seat.
9. Insert displacement rod (3) assembly through upper packing
set (20-22) in pump block (19). Be careful not to scratch
the inner walls of the cylinder or pump block. Push the
displacement through until the end is protruding from the top
of the pump block (19).
10. Remove cylinder (12) and pump block (19) from the vise.
11. Reinstall the ball pin (6) into the ball cage (8). Install the O-ring
(11), ball seat (10), ball (9) ball cage (8) and the O-ring (7) into
the foot valve (5).
12. Thread the foot valve (5) into the cylinder (12).
It is not necessary to overtighten foot valve and
i
cylinder into pump block. O-ring seals perform
sealing function without excessive tightening. Full
thread engagement is sufficient. The foot valve
(5) may be rotated back up to 3/4 turn from full
engagement for convenient hose position.
(19) with the stanchions on the air motor. Secure with the
stanchion nuts (4).
14. Attach the fluid pump into the bottom of the piston rod (2).
Thread the displacement rod (3) into the piston rod (2) so far
as to have the holes in each rod line up.
15. Re-insert the pin (1) through the piston rod and the
displacement rod.
