12. Remove the piston O-ring (26) and the base O-ring (27).
Inspect the O-rings.
13. Clean all the parts carefully in a compatible solvent. Inspect
the parts for wear or damage.
During reassembly, use all of the repair parts
i
included with the kit. Replace other parts as
necessary.
14. Check the surface of the piston, piston rod, and cylinder
wall for scratches or wear. A damaged piston rod will cause
excessive wear on the packings and subsequent leakage.
Reassembly Procedure (Fig. 21)
1. Install the exhaust valve poppets (23) into the actuator (21).
Clip off the top exposed parts of the poppets.
2. Install new the grommets (29) into the actuator (21). Thread
the valve stem (30) through the poppet (25) and then through
the hole in the piston (11). Repeat for the other side.
3. Place the lower valve nut (22) onto the valve stem (30). Thread
the lower valve nut on the stem until a few threads are visible
below the nut. Repeat for the other side.
4. Remove the hex nut (7) from the trip rod again.
5. Replace the actuator (21) back into the trip rod yoke (12) and
insert the trip rod (7) between them.
6. Thread the hex nut (7) back onto the trip rod to prevent it from
sliding into the piston rod when reassembling. Grease the trip
rod, actuator, and yoke assembly heavily and replace into the
piston with the valve stems (30) going through the grommets
(29).
7. Thread the upper valve nuts (20) onto the valve stems (30)
until one thread of the valve stem is exposed above the upper
valve nuts.
8. Figure 20 - Install the toggle pins (18) on the yoke (12).
Assemble the toggle assemblies. Place a well-greased spring
(16) onto the toggle arms (17) followed by the the toggle
rockers (15). Place the ends of the toggle arms into the toggle
pins (18) and snap the toggle rocker (15) ends into the ends of
the piston lugs (14).
9. Set gap on the valve stem (30) using a feeler gauge set at
0.118" (3 mm). Using a screwdriver, rotate the valve stem (30)
until it is snug against the gauge. Then back off the valve stem
until the slot is lined up with the wire holes in the upper valve
nut (20). Do not back off more than 1/2 turn.
10. Tighten the lower valve nuts (22) by hand.
11. Align the holes in the upper valve nut (20) and the lower valve
nut (22) with the slot on the valve stem (30). Insert the prongs
of the lockwires (19) through the holes in the valve nuts, and
into the slots on the valve stem. Pull the lockwires down
tightly, and then bend the ends approximately 120º with a
needle-nose pliers so they cannot be pulled back out.
Do not re-use the old lockwires. Excessive bending
will cause them to weaken. Do not score the surface
of the lockwires as they are more likely to break.
Attention
12. Grease and install the new O-ring (26) on the piston assembly
and the new motor base O-rings (27 and 31).
13. Slide the piston rod (2) down through the center of the motor
base (10). Lower the piston assembly (11) into the motor
base.
14. Carefully lower the cylinder (9) onto the piston assembly (11).
Secure with the screws (8), making sure to include the washers
and air motor brackets.
15. Grip the hex nut on the trip rod (7). Thread the cylinder cap
nut (6) onto the trip rod. Push down and thread the cylinder
cap nut onto the cylinder.
16. Reinstall the fluid pump. Line up the triangular bracket with
the stanchions on the air motor. Secure with the stanchion
nuts (4).

17. Attach the fluid pump into the bottom of the piston rod (2).
Thread the displacement rod (3) into the piston rod (2) so far
as to have the holes in each rod line up.
18. Re-insert the pin (1) through the piston rod and the
displacement rod.
19. Reattach the motor shroud assembly and reconnect the clear
tube to the bottom of the air regulator. Reconnect the air
hose to the lower air hose fitting.
