Loosen headstock, then move it all the way to
tail end of lathe bed, as shown in Figure 51.

Retighten headstock to bed.
When outboard turning, ALWAYS use a
floor-mounted tool rest and keep tool in
contact with rest during all turning opera-
tions. Failure to do so could cause tool to be
pulled out of operator's control and ejected
at high speed.

Sanding/Finishing

After the turning operations are complete, the
workpiece can be sanded and finished before
removing it from the lathe, as shown in Figure 52.
