D20/D200 Technical Overview
• D.20 Communication Interface with a fiber optic adaptor at the end of the fiber optic cable to
convert back to an RS-485 link, for interconnecting remotely located D20 peripheral I/O
modules.
• Cable and connectors
• Power supply

2.8.2 D.20 Communication Interface

The D.20 Communication Interface is used as a repeater module for systems requiring more than
31 D20 I/O peripheral modules. It facilitates extension to a maximum of 120 D20 I/O peripherals
on a single HDLC communication port. The DCI can also be used to extend the distance range of
the D20/D200:
From D20/D200, or from
upstream I/O Peripherals
The D.20 Communication Interface (DCI) provides a 1:1 interface between an RS-485 serial
D.20 Link and one fiber optic D.20 Link. The DCI has two RS-485 D.20 ports, one input port
and one port for continuing the D.20 Link daisy chain. The fiber cable connects to the DCI via
either a plastic (PFO) or glass (GFO) fiber adaptor, which plugs onto the DCI module. The DCI
installs on a standard 19" rack and is one rack unit high. See Figure 40.

At the end of the fiber optic link, another DCI is used (with the appropriate glass or plastic fiber
optic adaptor) to convert from the fiber optic link back to the RS-485 serial D.20 Link that
interconnects the remote D20 peripheral I/O modules.
