Chassis Ground Connection Installation

Connecting the Cisco ASR 1013 Router chassis to earth ground is required for all DC powered installations and any AC
powered installation where compliance with Telcordia grounding requirements is necessary.
The dual-lug chassis stud must be installed, the SIP and SPA must be fully inserted and screwed in and earthed to

Have the recommended tools and supplies available before you begin this procedure.
Warning
This equipment must be grounded. Never defeat the ground conductor or operate the equipment in the absence of
a suitably installed ground conductor. Contact the appropriate electrical inspection authority or an electrician if
you are uncertain that suitable grounding is available. Statement 1024
Before you connect power or turn on power to your chassis, you must provide an adequate chassis ground (earth) connection
for the chassis. A chassis ground connector is provided on each Cisco ASR 1013 Router. There is a ground stud on the rear
bottom of the chassis as shown in Figure 5.

Recommended Tools and Supplies

The following tools, equipment, and supplies necessary to connect the system ground to the chassis:
• Phillips screwdriver
• Dual-lug chassis ground component
• Grounding wire
Attach the Chassis Earth Ground
Use the following procedure to attach the grounding lug to the chassis ground connector on your chassis:
Use the wire stripper to strip one end of the AWG #6 wire approximately 0.75 inches (19.05 mm).

Insert the AWG #6 wire into the wire receptacle on the grounding lug.
Use the crimping tool to carefully crimp the wire receptacle around the wire; this step is required to ensure a proper

mechanical connection.
Attach the grounding lug with the wire so that the grounding wire does not overlap the power supply.

Locate the chassis ground connector on the bottom rear of the Cisco ASR 1013 chassis.
