2.5.4.3 Configuring Stac LZS Compression on a PPP Link

Context
Stac Lempel Ziv Standard (Stac LZS) compression, developed by Stac Electronics, is a standard
of data compression at the link layer. Stac LZS compression compresses only the payload in a
packet.
Before using Stac LZS compression, the two devices on a PPP link use the Compression Control
Protocol (CCP) to negotiate with each other for a data compression algorithm. After the devices
at both ends of a PPP link (complete LCP negotiation if no authentication is configured) complete
authentication, the two devices check whether Stac LZS compression is enabled on the connected
interfaces. If Stac LZS compression is enabled, the two devices start CCP negotiation. After
CCP negotiation succeeds, the two devices transmit compressed data packets.
Ensure that the PPP link STAC-LZS function is configured on the peer device; otherwise, the PPP compression
negotiation between the two ends fails.
Procedure
Step 1 Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
Step 2 Run:
interface interface-type interface-number
The view of a specified interface is displayed.
Step 3 Run:
ppp compression stac-lzs
Stac LZS compression is configured on the interface.
By default, Stac LZS compression is not configured on an interface.
Step 4 Restart the interface.
You can restart an interface by using the following methods:
l Run the shutdown command and then the undo shutdown command.
l Run the restart command.
