2.5.3.3 Configuring DNS Server Address Negotiation

Context
During IP address negotiation, the device can negotiate the DNS server address with the remote
device. It can either specify a DNS server address for the remote device or accept the DNS server
address specified by the remote device.

When the device connects to a carrier's access server using PPP, the device must be
configured to accept the DNS server address specified by the access server or to request a
DNS server address from the access server. In this way, the device can connect to the
network using a domain name.
When a PC connects to the device using PPP (the typical case being a PC dialing to the
device), the device can be configured to specify a DNS server address for the PC so that
the PC can access the Internet using a domain name.
NOTE
The industrial switch router cannot be configured to specify a DNS server address for the remote device
and to accept the DNS server addresses specified by remote server simultaneously.
Configuring the industrial switch router to accept the DNS server address specified by the
remote device
1. Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
2. Run:
interface interface-type interface-number
The interface view is displayed.
3. Run the following commands as required:
– Run:
ppp ipcp dns request
The industrial switch router is configured to request a DNS server address from
the remote device.
By default, the industrial switch router is disabled from requesting a DNS server
address from the remote device.
– Run:
ppp ipcp dns admit-any
The industrial switch router is configured to accept the DNS server address
specified by the remote device.
By default, the industrial switch router cannot obtain the DNS server address
specified by the remote device.
