3.5.2.1 Configuring a VT

Context
An Ethernet interface provides the PPPoE function after a virtual template (VT) is bound to the
interface.
Procedure
Step 1 Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
Step 2 Run:
interface virtual-template vt-number
A VT is created and its view is displayed.
Step 3 (Optional) Run:
ppp authentication-mode { chap | pap } [ [ call-in ] domain domain-name ]
The PPP authentication mode is configured for the VT.
By default, PPP authentication is not performed.
When PPP authentication is used for BRAS access, this step is mandatory.
If the PPP authentication mode is configured, configure a PPPoE user by referring to

In PAP authentication, passwords are transmitted in plain text on the network, bringing potential security risks.
CHAP authentication is recommended.
Step 4 Run:
ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length }
An IP address is configured for the VT.

3.5.2.2 Configuring a PPPoE User

Context
When the device functions as the PPPoE server to authenticate PPPoE clients and perform
accounting for the clients, a PPPoE local user needs to be configured.
The following describes only how to configure local users in AAA local authentication in the
default domain. For detailed configuration of AAA authentication, see AAA Configuration in
the Configuration Guide - Security.
