Removing Carrier from Chassis and Drive from Carrier

Caution: Except for short periods of time while swapping hard drives, do not operate the server
with the hard drive slots empty.
The server has twenty-four hot-swappable 2.5" drive bays. The hard drives are mounted in drive
carriers to simplify their installation and removal from the chassis. System power may remain on
when removing carriers with drives installed. These carriers also help promote proper airflow for
the drive bays. For this reason, even empty carriers without drives installed must remain in the
chassis.
Use the following procedure to remove the HDD carrier from the chassis and the drive from the
carrier.
1.
Press the release button on the drive carrier.
This extends the drive carrier handle. See
2. Using the handle, pull the drive carrier out of the chassis.
3. Remove the disk drive or dummy drive from the carrier.
