SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Safety Alert Symbol

This safety alert symbol indicates important safety messages.
When you see this symbol be alert to the possibility of injury.
Carefully read the following and inform others.
Failure to observe the following precautions may result in
serious injury.

Training

Before using the mower read the owners handbook carefully. Pay
particular attention to the safety precautions. Ensure that you are
familiar with the controls and the proper use of the equipment.
Learn how to stop the mower quickly in an emergency.
Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions
to use the mower. Local regulations can restrict the age of the
operator.
Never mow while people, especially children, or pets are nearby.
Keep in mind that the user is responsible for accidents or hazards
occurring to other people or their property.
All operators and mechanics should be trained. The owner is
responsible for training users. Do not operate the machine while
ill, tired or under the infl uence of alcohol or drugs.

Preparation

Whilst mowing, always wear substantial slip resistant footwear
and long trousers. Tie back long hair and do not wear jewellery
or loose clothing.
Thoroughly inspect the area where the mower is to be used and
remove all objects which may be thrown by the machine.
WARNING: Fuel is highly fl ammable and highly explosive. A
fi re or explosion from fuel can burn you and others, and can
damage property.
Fill the fuel tank outdoors, in an open area, when the engine is
cold. Wipe up any fuel spills.
Do not handle fuel when smoking or around an open fl ame or
sparks.
Store fuel in an approved container and keep it out of the reach
of children.
A damaged cutterblade or loose fi xing bolt are major hazards.
Before use, always visually inspect the cutting mechanism to
ensure that it is in good condition. A damaged cutterblade must
be replaced immediately with a genuine Hayter replacement
part.
Do not tamper with or disable the mower safety systems, sealed
adjusters or other features.
Before use, ensure that all starting interlocks and operator
presence controls are properly functioning. Refer to Operating
the Mower.
Do not alter or tamper with the variable speed control.

Operation

Do not operate the engine in a confi ned space where exhaust
fumes (carbon monoxide) can collect.
Mow only in daylight or good artifi cial light.
Avoid using the machine on wet grass.
Always be sure of your footing on slopes.
Walk, never run.
Do not operate the mower near drop-offs, ditches or
embankments.

Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down.
Use extreme care when approaching blind corners, shrubs, trees,
or other objects that may block your view.
Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or other hidden objects.
Uneven terrain could cause a slip-and-fall accident.
Adjusting the cutting height may bring you into contact with the
moving cutter blade, causing serious injury.
Shut off the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
Do not put your fi ngers under the housing when adjusting
the cutting height.
This machine contains spring loaded assemblies which could
cause a hazard when disassembled and re-assembled, this
maintenance should only be carried out by a Hayter authorised
dealer.
If the machine has to be tilted for transportation when crossing
surfaces other than grass, and when transporting the machine to
and from the area to be mowed, stop the blades by releasing the
engine stop lever and ensure that the blades have stopped before
tilting the mower.
