2-1 . INTRODUCTION
This section of the manual contains informa-
tion and instructions necessary for installing
the HP 54501A Digitizing Oscilloscope .
Included in this section are inspection
procedures, power requirements, hardware
connections and configurations, and packag-
ing information .
2-2. INITIAL INSPECTION
Inspect the shipping container for damage . If
the shipping container or cushioning material
is damaged, it should be kept until the con-
tents of the shipment have been checked for
completeness and the instrument has been
checked mechanically and electrically .
Accessories supplied with the instrument are
listed under Accessories Supplied in section 1
of this manual . The self test procedure is
described in this section and electrical perfor-
mance verification functions are described in
section 5. If the contents are incomplete, if
there is mechanical damage or defect, or if the
instrument does not pass the Self Test
Performance Verification, notify the nearest
Hewlett-Packard Office .
If the shipping con-
tainer is damaged, or the cushioning materials
show signs of stress, notify the carrier as well
as the Hewlett-Packard Office . Keep the ship-
ping materials for carrier's inspection . The
Hewlett-Packard office will arrange for repair
or replacement at HP option without waiting
for claim settlement .
2-3 . OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
The operating environment for the HP 54501 A
is described in table 1-2. Note the non-
condensing humidity limitation . Condensation
within the instrument cabinet can cause poor
operation or malfunction. Protection should
be provided against temperature extremes
which cause condensation within the
instrument .

This instrument may be stored or shipped in

2-6. Tagging for Service
If the instrument is to be shipped to a
Hewlett-Packard office for service or repair ;
attach a tag to the instrument identifying
owner, address of owner, complete instrument
model and serial numbers, and a description
of the service required .
2-7. Original Packaging
If the original packaging material is unavailable
or unserviceable, materials identical to those
used in factory packaging are available
through Hewlett-Packard offices . If the in-
strument is to be shipped to a Hewlett-Packard
office for service, attach a tag showing owner,
address of owner, complete instrument model
and serial numbers, and a description of the
service required . Mark the container FRAGILE
to ensure careful handling . In any correspon-
dence, refer to the instrument by model num-
ber and full serial number .
2-8. Other Packaging
The following general instructions should be
followed for repacking with commercially
available materials .
