Connecting the Internal Modem with a Telephone Jack
Modem Port
CAUTION
Do not use the PBX internal phone lines installed in company offices. Doing
so may lead to a fire or electric shock.
It is not possible to connect the modem to any of the following lines.
• Internal home phones
• Intercoms
Be sure to connect the modem telephone cable into the modem port, not
into the LAN port.

Connect the computer and the telephone jack using a modem
telephone cable.
Open the modem cover, position the cable so that the tab matches the port ( ), and
insert the cable until you hear a "click".

Windows 2000

Select [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel] - [Phone and Modem Options] - [Dial-
ing Rules] - [Edit], then select the location from which you will be dialing in [Coun-
try/region].

Input the necessary information (items such as the country, area code, etc.),
select [OK], then select [OK].
Windows XP

Select [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Printers and Other Hardware] - [Phone and
Modem Options] - [Dialing Rules] - [Edit], then select the location from which you
will be dialing in [Country/region].

Input the necessary information (items such as the country, area code, etc.),
select [OK], then select [OK].
NOTE
Do not enter either the standby or hibernation mode during communications.
<Modem-on-Hold function>
The modem of this computer has Modem-on-Hold function, which allows you to
receive an incoming call and stay connected to the Internet (Call-Waiting service
from your phone company is required. Your ISP must also support V.92).
To use this function, select
Windows XP
When you run the New Connection Wizard and select [Connect using a dial-up
modem], you may receive the error message "System error 1717 has occurred.
The interface is unknown." In this case, perform the following procedure.

Select [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Performance Maintenance] - [Administrative
Tools] - [Services] - [Remote Access Connection Manager] - [General].

Select [Start], then select [OK].
