Fusing pressure roller pressure/retraction mechanism

• To ensure prolonged durability of the fusing belt, the pressure roller is retracted*
the fusing belt during any time other than a print cycle. (The roller is, however, retracted*
during a print cycle using envelopes.)
*1: The pressure roller does not completely retract but is slightly pressed to the fusing
belt.
• The fusing pressure roller retraction motor is turned forward or backward to press the
pressure roller up against, and retract it from, the fusing belt. When the motor rotates, the
fan-shaped gear will rotate to move the pressure roller.
• The fusing pressure home sensor detects the pressed position of the pressure roller. The
retracted position of the pressure roller is determined by counting a predetermined num-
ber of encoder pulses from the pressed position using the fusing pressure retraction sen-
sor.

Power save mode ON
When the fusing heater lamp is turned OFF (a door opened, a mal-
function occurs, or other factors.)
*2: Pressure/retraction will be conducted after the currently printed paper passes between
the fusing belt and the pressure roller. The timing for the next paper to be fed will be
delayed during the pressure/retraction and keep the certain period of time between
feeding the papers.
