A NIC teaming

Teaming enables the logical grouping of physical adapters in the same server (regardless of whether
they are embedded devices or Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) adapters) into a virtual adapter.
This virtual adapter is seen by the network and server-resident network-aware applications as a single
network connection.

Broadcom NIC teaming

The Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2 (BACS2) is an integrated utility providing information about
each Broadcom network adapter on the storage server. The Broadcom Advanced Server Program
(BASP), which runs within BACS2, is used to configure teams for load balancing, fault tolerance, and
virtual local area networks (VLANs).
Figure 81 BASC2 screen
Broadcom Smart Load Balancing (SLB) provides for switch-independent, bidirectional, fault-tolerant
teaming and load balancing. Switch independence implies that there is no specific support for this
function required in the switch, allowing SLB to be compatible with all switches.
The BASP continually monitors the ports for link loss. In the event of link loss on any port, traffic is
automatically diverted to other ports in the team. The SLB teaming mode supports switch fault tolerance
by allowing the teaming configuration across different switches, provided that the switches are on the
same physical network.
