maintenance

Troubleshooting the storage server

The ProLiant DL100 G2 line of storage servers and File Print Appliance models use a unique hardware
platform. Specific hardware-related documentation for maintenance and troubleshooting, usually found
on the HP ProLiant server web site, are not available. Use the references and general guidelines in this
section to troubleshoot your specific DL100 G2 storage server.

Operating system problems and resolutions

Use the suggestions below to help resolve operating system issues.
Table 13 Operating system problems
Problem
Operating system locks up
General protection fault (GPF) occurs. This can
occur with the Microsoft operating system terminates
suddenly with an error, including, but not limited to:
Miscalculating the amount of RAM needed for
an allocation
Transferring execution to a segment that is not
executable
Writing to a read-only or a code segment
Loading a bad value into a segment register
Using a null pointer
A GPF is immediately identifiable by a blue screen
with white text, and the text may contain information
that identifies the problem.
Errors are displayed in the error log
Operating system updates
Use care when applying operating system updates (service packs, hotfixes, and patches). Before
updating the operating system, read the release notes for each update. If you do not require specific fixes
from the update, HP recommends that you do not apply the updates.
If you decide to apply an operating system update:
1.
Perform a full system backup.
2.
Apply the operating system update, using the instructions provided.
3.
Install the current drivers.

Application software problems

If your application software locks up, perform the following actions:
Action
Scan for viruses with an updated virus scan utility.
Remove any newly installed software or hardware
to verify that they are not the cause.
Boot the server in Safe Mode or the last known
good configuration.
If neither of these actions resolve the problem,
contact an authorized service provider. For more
information about debugging tools or specific
GPF messages, refer to the Microsoft web site
at
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/
debugging/default.mspx.
Follow the information provided in the error log, and
then refer to the operating system documentation.
