If the LED flashes red: there is no electric contact
between the battery and the charger. Remove
and reinsert the battery.
or
The battery has a malfunction and must be
replaced. Check the LEDs on the battery for
4 flashing red lights. Do not attempt to use it.
or
The charger has a malfunction. Have it checked
by an authorized STIHL servicing dealer before
use.

12 Assembling the Trimmer

12.1 Combinations of Deflectors and Cutting

Attachments

WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from thrown objects and
contact with the cutting attachment, never operate the
trimmer without the proper deflector and loop handle,
@ 5.6.4. Ensure that the deflector and loop handle are
properly mounted and adjusted at all times while working.
Never use metal blades or metal-reinforced line on this
trimmer, @ 5.6.4.
The deflector provided with the FSA 56 is the only
authorized deflector for this unit. When properly installed, it
is designed to reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects
and inadvertent contact with the cutting attachment.
The FSA 56 is approved for use only with the AutoCut 2-2
mowing head, which may be operated only with the following
cutting attachments:
– Nylon Trimmer Line: round line or round "quiet" line with a
diameter of 0.080 in. (2.0 mm).

12.2 Mounting the Deflector

WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects or contact
with the cutting attachment, never operate the trimmer
without a properly mounted deflector. Keep bystanders at
least 50 ft. (15 m) away.
To mount the deflector:
► Switch off the trimmer, @ 15.2.
► Remove the battery, @ 14.2.

► Push the deflector (2) into the guides on the housing until
it stops.
The deflector must be tight against the housing.
► Insert and tighten the screws (3).
The line limiting blade (1) comes mounted in the deflector
and may not be removed.

12.3 AutoCut 2-2 Mowing Head

12.3.1 Mounting the Trimmer Line Spool
WARNING
Use of metal cutting attachments, wire or metal-reinforced
line is not authorized and could be extremely dangerous.
Use only the cutting attachments recommended in this
manual, in combination with the recommended deflector,
@ 5.6.4.
