3. The ring gaps must be staggered 120 deg. and must not be
in the direction of the piston pio boss or at right angle to
the pino See Fig. 4-34 and Fig. 4-37.
NOTE:
On the gap of the three-piece type oil ring refer to that of
the spacer.
Piston
1. Install the piston with the "IN" mark on the piston head
toward the rear (intake side) of the engine.
2. Assemble the piston and piston pin to the connecting rod
with a new piston pin clip.
NOTES:
a. Put a waste or the like in the crankcase opening to
preveDi the clip from falling in the crankcase.
b. Install the piston pio clips, so that their end gaps afe
lined up with the piston pio hole grooves.

Cylinder
1. lnstall two dowel pins and a new cylinder gasket to the
cylinder surface of the crankcase.

2. Apply a coat of clean engine oil to the piston rings. Make
sure that the gaps of the rings afe staggered 120 degrees.
3. PIace "Piston Base" (Tool No. 07958-2500000) between the
piston and crankcase. Passing the cam chain down through
the cylinder, slowly lower the cylinder aver the pistons.
Hold the piston rings with "Piston Ring Compressor" (Tool
No. 07954-2830000) while lowering the cylinder.
Remove the piston base and compressores when the rings
enter the cylinder bores.
