Beforeperforming any maintenanceor repairs,disengagethe PTO, m ove
the drive control leversfully outward in the neutral position,engagethe
parking brake,stop the engine and removethe keyto preventunintended
starting.
Engine Maintenance
Referto the Kohler O wner's Manual f orall enginemaintenance p rocedures a nd
instructions.
Changing the Engine Oil
TireMaintenance
Check t he tire air pressure afterevery50hoursof operation or weekly.Keep the
tires inflatedto the recommended p ressures. Improper i nflationwill shorten the
tire service life.See the tire sidewall for properinflationpressures. Observe t he
followingguidelines:
Donot inflateatire abovethe maximum pressure shownonthe sidewall o f
the tire.
Donot reinflateatire thathasbeenrunflat or seriously underinflated.Have
aqualifiedtire mechanic i nspectandservice the tire.
Lubrication
If the engine hasbeenrecently run,the engine, muffler andsurrounding
metal surfaces will be hot and cancauseburnsto the skin. Exercise caution
to avoid burns.
Tocompleteanoil change, p roceed asfollows:

Run the engine forashorttimeto warmthe engine oil.The oil will flow more
freelyandcarryaway moreimpurities. U se careto avoidburns fromhot oil.
Locate the oil drainhoseonthe left sideof the engine.SeeFigure 22.

Routethefreeendofthe oil drainhosetowardanappropriate oil collection
container w ith atleasta2.5quartcapacity, t o collect t he used oil. Remove
the oil fill cap/dipstick f rom the oil fill tube.

Whileholdingthe freeendof the oil drainhoseoverthe oil collection
container, unscrew the square headhoseplug fromthe endofthe hose. S ee

container w ith atleasta2.5quartcapacity, t o collect t he used oil.

Once the oil hasfinisheddraining, r eplace the squarehead hoseplugandfill
the engineasinstructed inthe engineowner'smanual. S eeengineowner's
manual i ncluded with thistractorforoil capacity.
Using a pressure l ubricatinggun,lubricatethe front castor wheelaxles and
the front pivotaxlewith No.2multipurpose lithium grease afterevery10
hoursof service.
Periodically lubricate all otherpivotpoints; i .e.theseatpivotbracket, i dlerpivot
bracket o nthe deck, d ecklift shaftassembly, etc.withaqualitylubricating oil.
Cieanin9 and Lubrkatin9 the Spindle Pulleys
Once a monthremove the beltcovers to remove anyaccumulation o f grass clippings
from aroundthespindlepulleys andV-belt.Clean moreoften whenmowingtall,
drygrass.
Every 25hours,lubricatethe deckspindles. L ocate the spindlelubefitting andusing
agrease gun,lubricatethe spindles. T hespindleholds2.3ounces of grease. S ee
