Beforeperforming any maintenance,placethe PTOswitchin the "OFF"
position, e ngagethe parking brake lever,turnthe ignitionkeytothe "OFF"
position and remove the keyfrom the switch. Protectyour handsbyusing
heavygloveswhenhandlingthe blades. W henservicing the mower deck,
be careful notto cutyourself o nthe sharpened blades.
Thecuttingbladesmustbekeptsharpat all times.Sharpen the cuttingedges of the
blades evenlysothatthe bladesremainbalanced andthe sameangleof sharpness
ismaintained.
If the cuttingedgeofa bladehasalready beensharpened manytimes,or if any
metalseparation is present, i t isrecommended t hat newbladesbeinstalled. N ew
bladesmaybeobtained throughSears Parts & Repair o r bycalling1-888-331-4569.
Thebladesmayberemoved asfollows.
1.
Remove t he deckfrom beneath the ridingmower,(referto Deck Removal)
thengentlyflip the deckoverto expose its underside.
2.
Use a 1-1/8 " wrenchto hold the hexnut on top of the spindleassembly w hen
loosening the hexnut securing the blade. A blockof woodmaybeplaced
betweenthe deckhousing andthe cuttingedgeof the bladeto helpin
breaking loosethe hexnut securing the blade. S eeFigure 40.
Several components mustberemoved andspecial t oolsusedinorderto change the
ridingmower'stransmission d rivebelt.Seeyour Sears Service Center o r to schedule

TractorCreeping
Creeping isthe slightforwardor backward movement o f the mowerwhenthe
throttle ison andthe speed control l eversareinthe neutralposition.Ifyourmower
creeps, s eeanauthorized service dealer.

Whenreinstalling the blades, b esuretheyareinstalled s othat the wind
wingsarepointingupwardtowardthe top of deck.

Use a torquewrenchtotighten the bladenutsto 70-90ft-lbs.
5.
Reinstall the deck(referto DeckInstallation).
