On an active TET RA Ne tw ork, a TE TR A Mo bile con tinual ly monit ors the si gnal st reng th of nei ghbor ing
base st ations ( cells) to de termin e wh ether it w ould obtain bett er ser vice fr om anot her base stat ion ( c ell).
This mo nitor ing opera tion is per for m ed w hen t he mob ile is idle on th e MC CH and whe n th e mobile is
engage d in a call on a Tr affi c Cha nnel. Th e mobile uses i nfor ma tion tra nsmitted by it s cur rent base
stat ion ( servin g cell) t o ide ntify the fr equencies on which to monito r ne ighbor cell s; t his inf ormat ion ( the
Nei ghbor C ell B road cast) also e nables t he mob ile t o make decisions about the signal level co nditio ns
under w hich it should at tempt to obt ain bett er service (p erfo rm Cell R e-sele ction) . Th e mobi le may also
use t his i nfor ma tion wh en f irst tur ned on t o det ermin e th e most suita ble b ase st ation on which to reg ister
(per for m In itial Cel l Se lection ). If the mobile is eng aged i n a ca ll w hen i t pe rfor ms C ell R e- se lection , it
also perf orms Call R estor ation signa ling on t he new base stat ion ( cell) in or der to contin ue w ith th e call .
Ther e ar e a numbe r of diff eren t type s of C ell R e-se lec tion which are used accor ding t o the mobile's ca ll
involvemen t and its monitor ing capabilit ies.
The Cell R e-select ion Ope rati ons suppo rte d by t he T est S et are describ ed in this section.
Tw o Test S ets ar e ne eded t o t est t he mobi le's ab ility t o pe rfor m th e C ell R e- se lection Opera tions.
Each T est Se t simulat es a separ ate TE TR A base st ation ( cell) , using di ffer ent car rie r fr equenci es, as
in a r eal TE TR A N etw ork. T he R F input s and out puts of the t wo T est S ets ar e combined so t hat t he
mobile can r eceive si gnals ge nerat ed b y each Test Set, and so t hat each Te st S et ca n re ceive
signals tra nsmitted by t he mobi le.

Us e the pow er splitt er and co nnectin g cable s to connect the mobile to both Test S ets via
the pow er sp litte r.
2.
Co nnect the R F port of each T est S et (nor mally t he
splitt er, and connect the mobile under test to the thir d po rt on t he spli tter .

Sel ect T ETR A MS S ystem on each Test Set .

The mobil e r eceives signal s ge nerat ed by each Test S et, subj ect to 6 dB loss. E ach Test
Set re ceives sign als tr ansmitt ed b y the mobile, subject to 6 dB loss. T he Te st S ets can
compensat e fo r t his loss, so t hat the displayed values for signal gener ator level and
mobile tra nsmitter po wer cor respon d to the levels a t t he mobil e's ant enna connecti on.
