Symbols on choke knob
Run position F – a hot engine is started
in this position or the engine runs in this
position.
Start position } – a cold engine is
started in this position.
STIHL Electric Starter
The power tool is equipped with the
STIHL electric starter for convenient
starts.
The STIHL electric starter basically
consists of the following components:
Rechargeable battery integrated in
the electronic module
Starter mechanism with starter
motor and starter gear
Starter switch
The battery supplies the starter motor
with the power required to start the
engine.
The battery is recharged while the power
tool is running – the power tool is always
ready to start.
The starter battery is not replaceable – it
is integrated in the electronic module.

If the power tool is stored at
temperatures below 0°C it may cool
down to a point where a start is inhibited
to protect the battery. The power tool
must then be started manually – see
"Starting the Engine - without electric
starter".
Starting the Engine

Press the manual fuel pump
N
bulb (4) at least five times – even if
the bulb is filled with fuel.
The choke knob is in the normal run
position F.

If the engine is cold: Depress in the
N
outer edge (arrows) of the choke
knob (5) and then turn it to Start }.
If fitted: Remove the transport guard
N
from the cutting attachment.
With STIHL electric starter
Put the machine on your back.
N
WARNING
The throttle cable must be positioned
parallel to the flexible shaft, not wrapped
around it.
Left hand on the loop handle, right
N
hand on the control handle, cutting
attachment just above the ground.
WARNING
Check that the cutting attachment is not
touching the ground or any other
obstacles.
Make sure you have a firm footing.

Press the starter switch
N
WARNING
Make sure the carburetor is correctly
adjusted. The cutting attachment must
not rotate when the engine is idling.
Without STIHL electric starter
Put the power tool with support
N
frame on the ground.
