E Server Management Using
HP Support Anywhere
This appendix describes Support Anywhere services. It assumes that you are
familiar with the concepts and terminology common to networking and that you
have already set up the Support Anywhere Client and installed Support Anywhere
on at least one HP NetServer E Series system.
Support Anywhere functions in both the Microsoft Windows NT and Novell
NetWare / IntranetWare Network Operating Systems (NOS).
Support Anywhere is a versatile management tool that combines LAN-based and
web-based software to monitor and manage the performance and operating
conditions of HP NetServer E Series.
Any or all of the following Support Anywhere features can be used to manage
your NetServer(s) in a networking environment. Support Anywhere management
tools include the following:
Auto Alert provides prompt notification of server operations
Support Anywhere Web takes you directly to a NetServer's web page for
detailed information about NetServer operations
Remote Console Options allow a system administrator, support
technician, or dealer to monitor, and, when necessary, take remote control
of the server in order to maintain, configure, or otherwise manage a server's
operations
NOTE
For detailed information about how you and/or your dealer can
enable and use HP Support Anywhere, including its remote
access features, consult the HP Support Anywhere Installation
and User Guide.

Using Auto Alert

Auto Alert is a service that monitors the operating environment of HP NetServers
and generates notifications and alarms based on factory-defined error thresholds.
The changes are identified by SNMP alarm agents which, during installation, are
installed on all participating HP NetServers.
