VRRP/HiVRRP

5.1 HiVRRP

In compliance with RFC 2338, the master sends IP Multicast messages at in-
tervals of one second to the other VRRP routers. Only if this message does
not appear three times do the remaining routers select a new master. VRRP
has typical switching times of 3 to 4 seconds.

To be able to achieve faster switching times, Hirschmann provides HiVRRP
so that the cycle for sending the IP Multicast message can be shortened to
as little as 0.1 seconds. You can thus achieve switching times that are up to
ten times as fast.
The router supports up to 16 VRRP router interfaces with this shortened
sending cycle.
