Periodic maintenance and adjustment

Rear wheel

To remove the rear wheel
WARNING
To avoid injury, securely support the
vehicle so there is no danger of it
falling over.
1. Loosen the axle nut and the brake

caliper bolts.

2. Disconnect the brake torque rod
from the brake caliper bracket by
removing the nut and the bolt.

3. Lift the rear wheel off the ground
according to the procedure on
2
page 6-35.
4. Remove the axle nut and the
brake caliper by removing the
bolts. NOTICE: Do not apply the
brake after the brake caliper
has been removed, otherwise
the brake pads will be forced
shut.
5. Loosen the locknuts, and then
turn the drive chain slack adjust-
ing bolt on each side of the swing-
arm fully in direction (a).

6. Push the wheel forward, and then
remove the drive chain from the
rear sprocket.
TIP
 If the drive chain is difficult to re-
move, remove the wheel axle first,
and then lift the wheel upward
enough to remove the drive chain
from the rear sprocket.
 The drive chain does not need to
be disassembled in order to re-
move and install the rear wheel.
7. While supporting the wheel and
the brake caliper bracket, pull the
wheel axle out.
